About Joel Serino
A steward of the inquiry, not its center.
I'd like to say what I am doing here is weaving ancient sounds and future narratives into the unified field of possibility. What I will say instead is far more believable...
I am trying to understand how we might become more loving people without turning away from the structures that shape our lives. And how we might build more loving structures without forgetting the human beings who must live within them. That inquiry became The Long Weaving.

The question
What began as a personal journey of discovery has now become a book, a companion journal for practice, and a wider field of community-centered work.
All of it begins with a question: What would it look like if loving-kindess was not only a personal attribute I could actually embody in my life, but a living pattern woven into my relationships, family, communities, institutions, and daily life?
This is the territory I explore. My work brings together contemplative practice, community organizing, cooperative living, relational inquiry, and the study of how human beings create structures of belonging. I am interested in the patterns that help people remain connected without requiring sameness, exercise power without abandoning care, and repair what has been strained or broken.
What makes my work different?
My path has not followed a conventional line. It has been shaped by practice, family, community, experimentation, service, failure, relationship, and years of returning to the same essential questions.
I do not approach these questions as someone standing outside of them. I approach them as a participant, practitioner, and fellow human being whose own life has repeatedly revealed the distance between what we believe and how we actually live.
what can i write here??? ...
I am not interested in loving kindness as a layer of beautiful language placed over unchanged systems. I am interested in what happens when we take it seriously. What does love ask of the way we share power? How we make decisions? How we respond to conflict? How we care for land, resources, and one another? How we remain in relationship when certainty and agreement are no longer available?
The Work I Do
I welcome conversations with people and organizations exploring belonging, community, relational practice, stewardship, cooperative culture, and more human forms of leadership and governance. This may include:
- Podcast and media conversations
- Speaking and facilitated dialogue
- Retreats and community gatherings
- Mentorship with founders, stewards, and organizational leaders
- Institutional and community partnerships
- Aligned creative collaborations
My work spans relational practice, community organizing, and cooperative living. I am the author of the forthcoming books The Long Weaving: Devotion and Belonging for the Renewal of Community and the Living Patterns Journal: Living Patterns for Relationship, Stewardship, and Repair.
If the questions at the heart of this work are alive in you or your life, community, or organization, I would be glad to hear what you are exploring.
